Hockey World League Round 2 Capetown 2013
Cape Town, South Africa - January 21 - 27, 2013

SA Hockey milestones put on hold

January 11, 2013
Marescia & Coetzee rested for Belgium test series

Two rare milestones will have to wait for iconic Investec South Africa women's hockey team players Marsha Marescia and Pietie Coetzee.

The SA coaching staff have opted to rest Marescia (captain), Coetzee and former SA Player of the Year and double Olympian Tarryn Bright for the four-Test series against Belgium that starts at Cape Town's Central Hockey Club in Vygieskraal on Monday. This is to ensure that they will be fresh for the all-important World League Round Two Competition and the Investec Challenge that follow thereafter.

With nearly 800 Test matches between them, they are major players and the coaching staff have decided to manage them very carefully.

This means that Marescia's 300th Test cap will have to wait until the World League that starts for SA on January 22, as will world record Test match goalscorer Coetzee's 250th goal.

South African fans will be hoping the wait is not going to be too long.
