FIH supports #OneHumanity UNAOC campaign

March 8, 2022

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has pledged its commitment to the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) #OneHumanity campaign, which calls for solidarity, compassion and unity in the face of discrimination and divisiveness.

The leading United Nations’ initiative to advance understanding, cooperation and dialogue among nations and peoples across all cultures, the UNAOC has recognised the ability of sport to further its call for promoting diversity and positive social change.

FIH has approached various athletes - men and women, from all continents, diverse backgrounds and languages - to participate in a FIH-produced video supporting the #OneHumanity campaign.

HE Miguel Ángel Moratinos, High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, said: "It is great to see big sports entities such as the International Hockey Federation join us in this venture. As the governing body of such a long-tradition sport, with millions of followers all over the world, having FIH in our #OneHumanity team is really meaningful, especially for the way they understand tolerance and intercultural respect and the way they celebrate and encourage diversity in all their competitions and activities.”

FIH President Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra said: “Sport is one of the few universal languages. It shall connect and unite people, no matter their differences. As a sport strongly attached to human values, hockey has a major role to play in promoting togetherness, equality and inclusivity. It is with this in mind that FIH will launch its very-first “Inclusion and Diversity Day” later this year. I encourage every member of hockey’s global community to promote and embody the values conveyed by the #OneHumanity UNAOC campaign.”
