The Hockey Museum – giving hockey’s history a future

The Hockey Museum (THM) was set up in Woking, UK, four years ago by a group of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers with the aim to preserve, share and celebrate the rich heritage and history of hockey from around the world.

Since then, the Hockey Museum (THM) has made excellent progress in pursuit of its strategic goal; ‘preserving and presenting all aspects of the history of hockey for the education and enjoyment of the hockey family and general public.’   And THM is working towards building a sustainable fully functioning museum and archive which will give hockey’s history a future by sharing hockey’s heritage and bringing its history to life.

THM is already home to a growing collection of hockey archives, artefacts and memorabilia.  There are over 1000 books in the Library; hockey illustrations, paintings and prints, many of which date back to the early days of hockey now number over 400 and the Museum also has a wide selection of playing kit in the form of clothing, sticks, balls and goalkeeping kit spanning hockey's 150 year 'modern' history.

THM was set up as a Trust in the autumn of 2011 and then gained Charitable Status in the summer of 2012.  In 2015, THM signed a Memorandum of Understanding with FIH’s Foundation for the Promotion & Development of Hockey and with the help of the FIH Foundation, THM is determined to obtain formal museum status in the UK through gaining Museum Accreditation and to achieve international recognition as a leading sports museum.
