With Japan joining the field, the stage is set for the 2012 Games
With Japan earning the last spot in the London Games, the preliminary round picture became clear. In the next few weeks, the FIH and the London Organizing Committee will work together to finalize the competition schedule for the Games, which being on July 27th, with the hockey tournament beginning on July 29th.

The women’s preliminary round groups for London are:

The men’s groups were already known before the conclusion of the men’s Olympic Qualification Tournament in Kakamigahara, Japan. Regardless of the outcome, the winning team will take the sixth-seed in Group A because of the World Ranking position of the participating teams. After tomorrow's final game, the winner between South Africa and Japan will be slotted into the sixth place in Group A finalizing the groups on the men's side.
