KOR V FRA ( Pool A ) Hockey World League Semi-Final Antwerp 2015

Match Review KOR - FRA 11-0
Korea’s quest for a ticket to the end of year showpiece Hockey World League Final picked up momentum on Thursday courtesy of a big win over Pool A rivals France at FINTRO Hockey World League Semi-Finals being played in Antwerp, Belgium.
It was a fourth successive defeat for the brave French girls, who graciously stepped into competition at late notice in place of Azerbaijan but haven’t managed to get the points required to secure a place in the cross-over quarter-finals. Les Bleues are now certain to feature in the 9-10 Classification match on Tuesday 30th June, although their opponents remain unknown at this stage.
Korea’s next opponents will be Asian rivals Japan on Saturday 27th June, the outcome of which will have massive significance in determining both where the two sides finish in the pool and who they will face in the quarter-finals.
Korea - who have already secured their ticket to Rio 2016 thanks to their Gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games - scored twice in the opening period, with Cheon Eunbi netting before ace striker Park Mihyun was allowed to surge into the circle unchallenged and duly punished the French defenders with a ruthless finish into the bottom left corner. Han Hye Lyoung made it 3-0 ahead of half time before Korea kicked on in the third and fourth quarters with a glut of goals from Park Mihyun, Kim Jongeun (2), Oh Sunsoon (2), Han Hye Lyoung, Baek Eeseul and Kim Bomi.
Korea Head Coach Han Jin Soo was pleased with the performance levels shown by his team, stating: “We played very well today, as we controlled the first two quarters and we were physically strong in the second and third, scoring a lot of goals. We are really looking forward to playing Japan as we are at a similar level to each other, and we will try our best to get the win."
Apolline Rogeau, the captain of France, described the competition as a learning experience for her side, believing that the chance to play here will massively benefit them ahead of their upcoming EuroHockey Championship II tournament in Prague, Czech Republic.
“Today we tried got play hard but we were really tired, although we have shown fighting spirit and it has been nice to play in this tournament as it is such a big event”, said Rogeau. “It is good preparation for our European Cup challenge that is coming up, although we still have a lot to work on. It is nice to play against a team from Asia as many of us have never had the chance to do that, so it is a good experience for us.”
