HKG V BRU ( Pool ) 2016 Women Hockey World League Round 1 - Singapore (SIN)

Match Review HKG - BRU 3-0
Report from Singapore Hockey Federation
Brunei fights hard to deny Hong Kong a bigger win
Hong Kong SAR may have emerged as 3-0 victors in the first Women's Pool match in the World Hockey League Round 1, but they were thwarted thanks to a good performance by Brunei keeper Haji Fatimah and their own failure to convert a majority of their chances.
Hong Kong showed attacking flair from the start of the first half as they put the Bruneians to the sword. Their persistence paid off when Tiffany Chan scored in the 12th minute from a penalty corner.
Hong Kong continued their attack after their first goal as they sought to build a more comfortable lead against Brunei. They were soon rewarded with another penalty corner in the 22nd minute which captain Lo I Ka converted with ease.
Although 2-0 down, Brunei custodian Haji Fatimah took centre-stage by making several crucial saves, including one where she thwarted an easy scoring opportunity created by a quick-fire Hong Kong attack in the 29th minute.
Hong Kong also had a penalty corner in the dying minutes of the first half but they failed to convert their chances as the Brunei defence reacted quickly to any potential threat.
Hong Kong continued to be relentless in going forward in the second half. The Hongkongers created virtually all of the available chances in the second half and cut the Brunei defence like a knife through butter.
A toothless Brunei could not find their way through a solid Hong Kong defence, with most of their players forced to engage in all-out defending in their own half for most of the game.
Hong Kong earned a penalty corner almost immediately after the restart on the 36th minute. First-half scorer Tiffany Chan fired at goal from wide right but was thwarted by Haji Fatimah's quick reflexes.
The Brunei defence eventually succumbed to another Hong Kong attack in the 49th minute as Lai Pui Sze popped up to fire home despite an initial quick reflex save by the Haji Fatimah.
Hong Kong SAR were by far the best team in this match but they should also be worried that they spurned too many chances to increase the scoreline in their favour.
With almost a dozen off-target shots by their attacking players in the second half, an improved performance against their next opponents Sri Lanka must be one of the team's key objectives.
