    New Zealand reach first ever Olympic semi-final

    Goal-less draw enough for kiwis to knock out Germany; Argentina finish top of Pool A after a lacklustre goalless tie against Australia; South Africa smash USA

    New Zealand reached the semi-finals of the women’s Olympic Games for the first time as drew 0-0 with Germany, a result which confirmed their place in the top two. In the process, they eliminated Germany who will end Pool B in a disappointing fourth place; South Africa, meanwhile, ran riot to beat USA 7-0 and leap-frog them into fifth in the group.  x 570 More

    Great Britain turns Group A into a wild ride

    Spain nets three goals in last five minutes to stay alive

    Great Britain staged an incredible comeback to earn a 3-3 tie against Australia, throwing the Group A standings into chaos and setting up a thrilling final preliminary round day on Tuesday. James Tindall's goal saved the day with four minutes left. Pakistan and Spain kept their hopes alive with close wins, including Spain's amazing 3-1 win against Argentina with all three goals coming in the last five minutes of play  x 2 More

    Dutch book their ticket in the semi-finals

    It's down to Korea and Germany for the other spot

    A berth in the semi-finals was on the line in the meeting between the two European giants, Germany and the Netherlands. It was the Dutch that claimed the first semi-final spot in the men’s tournament with a 3-1 win. Korea stayed in the hunt for a playoff spot with a 4-1 win against India and New Zealand and Belgium played to a 1-1 draw.  x 4 More

    China stun GB hosts with corner mastery

    Dutch delight - women into semi-finals; Japan and Belgium draw

    Two second half corner goals saw China put Great Britain's hopes of reaching the semi-finals under real pressure as the hosts fell 2-1; earlier, the Netherlands became the first hockey team to book a ticket in the Olympic hockey semi-finals after earning a 3-2 win against Korea.At the other end of the table, Japan and Belgium ended in a 1-1 draw, making the placement picture more interesting.  x 2 More

    Argentina riding high after Germany victory

    New Zealand and Australia stay in the semi-final hunt following wins over USA and South Africa

    Argentina all but eliminated Germany and progressed their own hopes of a semi-final berth from Pool B with a 3-1 success; New Zealand left if late to kill off USA's hopes of making the final four; Australia continued its ascent in the standings and kept hopes alive for a semi-final berth after earning a 1-0 win against South Africa.  x 4 More

    Charlier cracker hands Belgium first win

    Germany and the Netherlands both summon five-star performances

    A late Cedric Charlier winner saw Belgium beat Korea 2-1 in a late night thriller in Pool B at the Riverbank Arena; earlier, the Dutch and Germans moved into pole position in the group as they made it three wins from three; the Dutch beat New Zealand 5-1 while Germany overwhelmed India to cruise to a comfortable 5-2 win.     Jackson stars as Great Britain beat Pakistan; Australia stunned by Argentina comeback

    Spain came back from a goal to keep their interest in the two semi-final places to come from Group A with a 3-2 win over South Africa; Ashley Jackson scored twice to cap an all-round excellent performance as Great Britain beat Pakistan 4-1; Australia let a 2-0 lead half-time lead against Argentina slip to suffer their first dropped points of the campaign, eventually drawing 2-2   More

    Complicated situation in Pool B

    Four teams have 6 points (two wins)

    Anna Flanagan provided the spectacular winner to keep Australia’s comeback on track as they saw off USA in Pool B. Germany earned their second win of the competition against a South African team that tried very hard, but could not convert the many chances they created. Argentina redeemed themselves after losing to Pan American rivals of the USA two days ago. With their win over New Zealand, Pool B becomes complicated with four teams seating on 6 points (two wins and a loss). More

    Zeller rocket denies Korean charge

    Van der Weerden to the rescue for the Dutch, New Zealand tops India, 3-1

    A single goal was all that divided Germany and Korea as Zeller struck a first half beauty; the Dutch earned their second win in as many outings with a 3-1 victory against Belgium thanks to the efforts of Mink van der Weerden. Meanwhile, New Zealand picked up its first points of the tournament with a 3-1 win against India.  x 3 More
