Teun de Nooijer’s dream of winning the Euro Hockey League in his last ever playing season remains alive and kicking after his HC Bloemendaal team reached the tournament final courtesy of a penalty shoot-out victory against Amsterdam H&BC. The win means that the host club will play Belgium’s KHC Dragons, also winners on penalties in their Semi Final clash with Rot-Weiss Köln, in a mouth-watering final on Sunday. More

An Investec South African women’s hockey squad flew to China late Wednesday for a training camp. The squad will be based at the Chinese Liaoning Navigation Sport School. The camp forms part of the preparations for the Investec South African women’s hockey team’s participation in the Investec World League semi-finals tournament in London from June 22 to June 30. More

A squad of 20 South African U21 players have been selected to take part in the final selection phase for the South Africa U21 team that will compete in the 2013 Women’s Junior World Cup. Australia’s under 21 men’s hockey team, the Burras, have selected 20 athletes to tour Europe next month as preparations for December’s Junior World Cup get underway in earnest. Four years ago Australia won the bronze medal with victory over rivals New Zealand and the two week trip will see the Burras go up against the two teams that finished above them on the medal rostrum in 2009, Germany and the Netherlands. IN THE NEWS - BANGLADESH: Former Bangladesh hockey player, national coach and national award winning sportsperson Abdul Malek Chunnu has passed away. Chunnu was 55 and had been suffering from a number of health problems, including diabetes and kidney disease. He is survived by his wife and three sons. More

The Black Sticks have opened their six-test series against Korea with a tight 1-1 draw at Rangitoto College today. Both sides scored one goal each in the first half but were unable to deliver the killer blow in a goalless yet entertaining second half. More
