Effective immediately, he will move from his role as Field Hockey Canada’s (FHC) Director, Sport Development to join their High Performance team. The Black Sticks Men battled hard but were defeated 2-1 by Korea in the sixth and final test of the series in a wet weather clash at Papatoetoe Sports Centre tonight (Wednesday 22 May). After trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Kiwis drew level through a stunning Stephen Jenness goal but surrendered the lead again soon after and could not equalise. More

I heard on the news yesterday that Africa has seven of the fastest growing economies in the world. Africa is reputed to be the “Continent of Opportunity”, the Continent which is yet to fulfil its full potential – or so say some well-known economists. Korea have beaten the Black Sticks Men 2-1 in the fourth test at Pukekohe this afternoon despite an improved attacking effort from the Kiwis. The Black Sticks worked hard in the second half to equalise, at times putting pressure on the Koreans, pushing forward and attacking with confidence. More

EHL Final Four hosts HC Bloemendaal have been crowned Euro Hockey League champions for a second time after winning a pulsating final against KHC Dragons of Belgium. The team lead by retiring legend Teun de Nooijer – who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player in his final playing season – defeated the Dragons 2-0, with Rogier Hofman scoring both of the goals. x 25 More

Den Bosch have claimed a remarkable 13th elite European title in 14 seasons courtesy of a 4-2 victory over defending champions Laren MHC in the final of the EuroHockey Club Champions Cup. Teun de Nooijer’s dream of winning the Euro Hockey League in his last ever playing season remains alive and kicking after his HC Bloemendaal team reached the tournament final courtesy of a penalty shoot-out victory against Amsterdam H&BC. The win means that the host club will play Belgium’s KHC Dragons, also winners on penalties in their Semi Final clash with Rot-Weiss Köln, in a mouth-watering final on Sunday. x 2 More
