    Black Sticks men play out absorbing stalemate

    An entertaining 70 minutes of hockey between the Black Sticks Men and Korea has ended with a 1-1 draw in the second test at Rangitoto College today. After being rested in the first test, drag flick expert Andy Hayward made an immediate impact for the Black Sticks after sending a 13th minute penalty corner low and inside the left post to give New Zealand the early advantage.     A squad of 20 South African U21 players have been selected to take part in the final selection phase for the South Africa U21 team that will compete in the 2013 Women’s Junior World Cup. The Africa continent’s junior champions will be based in Amsterdam from July 6 for an intensive preparation phase ahead of the Junior World Cup finals from July 27 to August 4 in Monchengladbach, Germany.     Australia’s under 21 men’s hockey team, the Burras, have selected 20 athletes to tour Europe next month as preparations for December’s Junior World Cup get underway in earnest. Four years ago Australia won the bronze medal with victory over rivals New Zealand and the two week trip will see the Burras go up against the two teams that finished above them on the medal rostrum in 2009, Germany and the Netherlands.   More

Chunnu was 55 and had been suffering from a number of health problems, including diabetes and kidney disease. He is survived by his wife and three sons. More

    Charlie Pereira named South Africa men’s head coach

    Former international will lead team into World League Semi Finals

    Charlie Pereira has been named as the head coach of the South Africa men’s hockey team, the South Africa Hockey Association said Monday. The former SA player was the interim head coach who piloted the national team to qualification for the World League semi-finals, which takes place in Malaysia from June 29 to July 7.
