Over the next two weeks, the vibrant Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro plays host to not one but two crucially important international tournaments as the FIH World League sets up stage in South America. The Hockey World League Round 2 tournament in Valencia had its first major upset as top-seeded Ireland lost against fourth-seeded Belarus in a low-scoring 2-0 decision. The loss is a big blow for the 15th-ranked Irish, who now find themselves virtually in a must-win position in their next two games. The five test series between reigning women’s World Champions Argentina and New Zealand’s brilliant Black Sticks got underway this weekend in Rosario.
