    Men's team goes unbeaten at home in R1 event

    Host Fiji earned the last men’s berth into the Hockey World League Round 2 after thrashing Vanuatu 17-2 in the final game of the three-team round robin tournament held in Suva, Fiji. There is also a women’s tournament being held this week in Fiji and the winner of that will become the final team to qualify for Round 2 of the World League.  x 5 More

    Champions Trophy Bronze sees Pakistan move from 9th to 5th

    Following the completion of the Champions Trophy in Melbourne (AUS), the International Hockey Federation (FIH) has released the updated FIH Men’s World Rankings table. The top four positions in the table remain unchanged, with London 2012 Olympic Gold medallists Germany still holding the number 1 spot followed by Champions Trophy winners Australia (2nd), Olympic & Champions Trophy Silver medallists The Netherlands (3rd) and England (4th).  x 65 More

    High Five for Australia at Champions Trophy

    Host nation wins fifth-straight title

    Australia made it five in a row at the Champions Trophy after earning a 2-1 win against the Netherlands on home-turf in Melbourne. The five consecutive medals extends the Australian’s record at the event and re-establishes them as the men’s hockey team to beat after they missed out on gold at the Olympics. For the Dutch, the silver medal has a silver lining as it is an upgrade from their bronze finish the last two years.  x 42 More

    Pakistan wins Champions Trophy bronze

    First medal for the nation since 2004

    Pakistan earned its first medal at a Champions Trophy since 2004 after topping India 3-2 in an even and hard-fought bronze medal game. It is Pakistan’s seventh bronze medal at the annual event and their 15th overall. The loss leaves India still looking for its first medal since 1982, but nevertheless after a six-year absence at the Champions Trophy the fourth-place finish can be considered a major success.  x 276 More

    Belgium takes fifth place over Germany

    New Zealand tops England for 7th place

    Belgium weathered a late German comeback and earned a 5-4 extra time win to claim fifth place at the 2012 Champions Trophy and ensure their spot at the next edition of the event. In the seventh-place game, Nicholas Wilson’s goal seven minutes into extra time lifted New Zealand to a victory over England. Both placement games went to extra time.  x 38 More

    Rivals Pakistan and India to meet in the bronze medal game

    It will be a battle of the #2 team in the FIH World Ranking against the #3 team as Australia and the Netherlands will meet in the final game of the 2012 Champions Trophy. The Dutch earned a clear 5-2 win against Pakistan in its semi-final, while Australia also picked up a three-goal win with a 3-0 shutout against India.  x 25 More

    Germany’s Moritz Fuerste was named the FIH Men’s Player of Year in a post-game ceremony in Melbourne today. It was a double German delight as Fuerste’s Olympic teammate Florian Fuchs was named the FIH Young Player of the Year (U21).  x 41     More

    Belgium picks up historic Champions Trophy win

    Germany top Kiwis after six-goal second half

    Belgium made history today after earning its first-ever Champions Trophy win and it could not have come at a better time as the victory keeps the Belgians’ hopes alive to return to next year’s edition. Belgium beat England 4-0 and will now play for fifth place against the winner of the Germany v- New Zealand game. The top five finishers in Melbourne are guaranteed a spot in next year’s Champions Trophy in India.  x 15 More
