The FIH announced today that Gordon Nurse has been appointed to the new position of Disciplinary Commissioner.The position is part of the new FIH Statutes and Bye-Laws, which take effect on January 1, 2013. It is envisioned that the Disciplinary Commissioner will handle any disciplinary offences that are not committed on the field of play. x 3 More

Head coach Colin Batch has made it clear that he is searching for the next group of Black Sticks that can make up his side for the 2016 Olympic Games. For the upcoming Champions Trophy to be held in Melbourne in December, Batch has opted to select eight new players including debutants Jacob Smith (Capital), Alex Shaw (Auckland) and goalkeeper Devon Manchester (Auckland). Taking part in the three-day tournament are the men’s national teams from USA, Guatemala and Mexico. Veteran hockey coach Leelananda Ittapana passed away at the age of 51 after suffering from dengue. Leelananda devoted most of his time, coaching at all age group levels at Ananda College, Wesley College and a few other schools, clubs, Merchantile Hockey Association and national teams. More

According to reports surfacing in The Netherlands, Maartje Goderie, Marilyn Agliotti, Marieke Veenhoven and Floortje Engels have all decided to step away from the international game. Both Goderie, 28, and Agliotti, 33, were members of the Netherlands team that claimed Gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games. More

The women’s Hockey World League Round 1 event in Port of Spain (Trinidad & Tobago) has got off to a cracking start with a staggering 40 goals being scored in the opening six matches of the competition.
