In August 2012 the Chinese Hockey Association asked the FIH to assist by sending two Umpire Managers to assist in conducting Men’s and Women’s Umpiring Courses, which were held in conjunction with National Men's and Women's Tournaments in Beijing. The Men’s tournament took place September 24-29 and the Women’s October 16-21. Kookaburra Grant Schubert and Hockeyroo Jacklyn McRae have announced their respective retirements from international hockey. Schubert played 180 international matches scoring 96 goals after debuting in 2003. Schubert was also a member of the first Australian men’s hockey team to win an Olympic Gold medal in Athens in 2004, he was also a member of the 2008 Bronze team in Beijing and the 2010 World Cup team in New Delhi. The FIH has today published the Qualification System for the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014, which will be played in The Hague in the Netherlands between 2 and 15 June 2014. In total 12 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams will take part in the biggest hockey-only event in the four-year cycle. x 55 More

At the recently concluded FIH Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the torch was passed onto the next Congress host as it was announced that Marrakech, Morocco will host the next FIH Congress the first week of November in 2014 with the actual Congress day scheduled for November 1st. It was also announced at the same time that the 2016 FIH Congress will be held in Dublin, Ireland. x 2 More

Six more teams earned a place in the Hockey World League Round 2 after three tournaments concluded on Sunday. The USA men were the lone survivors from a three-team tournament in Chula Vista, California. Joining the Americans on the men’s side in Round 2 will be Trinidad & Tobago and Chile, which finished first and second, respectively in the tournament in Trinidad & Tobago. The U.S. Men’s National Team kicked off their World League Round 1 campaign against Guatemala on Saturday at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. The U.S. rolled away with a convincing victory over Guatemala, recording eight goals in the first half en route to a 16-0 shutout performance. More
