    #50 team in FIH World Ranking earns berth to Round 2

    Portugal earned a place in the Hockey World League’s Round 2 after a dramatic 3-3 draw and 2-0 shootout win. The qualification of Portugal is one of the biggest surprises yet in all of the World League Round 1 tournaments. Portugal entered the event as the fourth-seeded team in the five-team group with a 50th ranking, well behind #23 Scotland, the other team to earn a berth to Round 2 from the tournament.  x 98 More

    USA bounce back to earn South African revenge

    Ireland tie with Scotland; Australia and Belgium triumph in Pool A

    USA produced a brilliant fightback to get the better of South Africa in Pool B of the Electric Ireland FIH Champions Challenge I in Dublin; a feisty 1-1 saw Ireland and Scotland tied on all counts at the top of Pool B; Australia reaffirmed their status as tournament favourites as they wiped out India, making it two wins from two; Belgium bounced back from their opening day defeat to Australia as they showed Wales a clean pair of heels in the first game of the day  x 2   More

    Scotland secured its place in the Hockey World League Round Two after cruising to a 7-0 win against host Portugal today. With one day left in the tournament, Scotland has nine points, out of reach of the rest of the field. What will be a battle on the last day of action is the game between Portugal and Gibraltar. Portugal sits in the standings with six points, while Gibraltar has five points.  x 2 More

    Hosts Ireland surprise South Africa in opener

    India and Hockeyroos both post three-goal wins as Scotland nick USA victory

    Chloe Watkins fires Ireland to 1-0 win over South Africa to start off Pool B of Champions Challenge I; Scotland join them atop that group as they beat USA 1-0, too; Australia and India took the early advantage in Pool A after both teams earned three-goal wins. Australia had no problem dispatching Belgium, 4-1, while India earned the 3-0 shutout against Wales.  x 3   More

    Hockey India (HI) confirmed Mariamma Koshy as its president on Monday. The decision was taken under Rule 4(f) of HI rules and regulations during its executive board meeting held here. The 63-year-old Koshy was elected the vice-president of HI in Aug 2010 and held the interim president's position from Nov 2010.   More

    Eight teams await the start of Champions Challenge 1 on Saturday

    Dublin will play host to the Champions Challenge I for the second successive year after a spectacular event in 2011 ended with Japan just edging out USA, coming from behind to claim a thrilling 3-2 victory. Five of the cast list are back once again, in search of world ranking points and trying to uncover new talents in the wake of the Olympic cycle.     Scotland looks strong in WL debut

    Gibraltar still tops the standings with Scots nipping at their heels

    The World League Round One men’s tournament in Lousada, Portugal completed its first full day of action on Wednesday and Scotland came out looking like the team to beat after a 9-0 thrashing against Morocco. Scotland is the highest-ranked team at the event, holding the #23 spot in the FIH World Ranking. Gibraltar, ranked 43rd in the World Ranking, currently tops the standings with five points in two games after earning a nail-biting victory against Italy in a penalty shootout. More
