    Trio of corners ends New Zealand's hopes despite their best ever Olympic Games

    Great Britain claimed their first women’s Olympic medal since 1992 as their penalty corner machine put paid to New Zealand’s brave efforts, themselves producing their best ever performance at the Games. The hosts pulled all their switches out of the bag for Alex Danson, Crista Cullen and Sarah Thomas to all chip in gleefully received second half goals. In doing so, they recorded their second medal since women’s hockey was brought into the Games in 1980. More

    Pakistan joins 2012 Champions Trophy

    Eight-team field now known for Melbourne

    The FIH today confirmed the eighth and final team for the FIH Champions Trophy to be held in Melbourne, Australia, December 1-9 will be Pakistan. Pakistan was given the second invitational spot by the FIH Executive Board. The decision was made at the latest meeting of the Board, which concluded yesterday.  x 7 More

    Germany stun Australia with top final quarter display

    Witthaus, Wess and Fuchs condemn Kookaburras to bronze medal match

    Germany produced a scintillating second half display to fully merit an Olympic men's final berth, finding their most fluid hockey of the tournament to gain a modicum of revenge on Australia. Trailing 2-1 after 43 minutes, Germany bossed Australia in a manner unseen in the tournament to date with Matthias Witthaus, Timo Wess and Florian Fuchs picking off a trio of delightfully crafted goals.  x 8 More

    Muhammad Imran provided the winner over Korea (3-2) from a penalty corner drag flick providing Sohail Abbas a victory in his 350th international. Argentina left their comeback until too late as the Black Sticks controlled the game (3-1) through strong midfield and sharp finishing. More

    Joyce Sombroek pulled off three memorable penalty saves to set up Ellen Hoog to secure the Netherlands a third successive Olympic final berth at a tense Riverbank Arena.     Murakami strikes twice for Japan to take ninth

    Germany and Japan earned bragging rights in their placement games in early morning action at Riverbank Arena. Germany took seventh place vs. Korea on the strength of two goals from Lisa Hahn, while Japan relied on two goals from Ai Murakami to earn a 2-1 win against South Africa in the ninth-place game.
