    Americans and Aussies deliver surprises

    New Zealand still unbeaten

    The Olympic women's hockey tournament had its first two upsets today as the U.S. topped defending World Champion Argentina in a hard-fought 1-0 victory. Australia followed suit with a 3-1 win over Germany. New Zealand stayed unbeaten thanks to a straight forward 4-1 win against South Africa.   More

    South Africa's looking to bounce back

    Centurion Cronje positive for GB tie

    Despite falling 6-0 to Australia in his side’s opening tie of the men’s Olympic Games, South African sweeper Andrew Cronje is confident the tournament’s lowest ranked side can make a big impact in London.     Great Britain survives Korean scare

    Dutch also stay unbeaten; Belgium picks up first Olympic point

    Great Britain and the Netherlands remained unbeaten in Pool A action after each survived close games. The Dutch topped Japan, 3-2, while Great Britain had to dig deep in a 5-3 win against Korea. Belgium, the Cinderella of the competition, held China to a goalless draw, moving the China into third place in the standings. More

    Spain's Freixa suffers Olympic-ending injury

    Captain out for rest of Games with broken arm

    The Spanish hockey Federation website today announced that Spanish captain Santiago Freixa is out of the Olympic tournament after suffering a broken arm in today’s game against Pakistan. Freixa will be replaced by defenseman Andres Mir, who was named as one of two alternates for the Spanish national team in London.  x 14 More

    Middleton double does for Argentina

    Australia hit South Africa for six; Spain held back by Pakistan

    Great Britain skipper Barry Middleton struck twice to power the hosts to a 4-1 opening Pool A win over Argentina; Jamie Dwyer earned a hat trick, tying him with Mark Hager as Australia’s all-time leading scorer as they beat South Africa 6-0. Spain’s bid to reach the semi-finals suffered a set-back with their draw against Pakistan (1-1).  x 3 More

    Comfortable win for China over Korea; Dutch too good for Belgium

    On the first day of women’s Olympic action, in pool B, defending Olympic Champion Holland easily beat Belgium, 3-0. China won against Asian rival Korea with a more comfortable 4-0 margin and host Great Britain stormed to a 4-0 win over Japan. More

    Natascha Keller named Germany's flag bearer

    First-ever German hockey player awarded the honor

    Natascha Keller made history today when she was named Germany’s flag bearer for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Keller is the first-ever hockey player to be given the honor for Germany. The 35 year-old was on the German team that won the Olympic gold medal in 2004 and has played in more than 400 international games.  x 36 More
