  South Africa, badly missing Pietie Coetzee, only drew with Italy, 1-1, despite more than a dozen penalty-corners. Ukraine took three points for their 5-2 win over a struggling Canadian team. India had a hard time against Poland, finally winning 3-0 to join South Africa at the top of the table with seven points.  x 3 More

  India defeated France, 6-2, in its first serious challenge of the competition. India is now the only team with three wins. Canada, France and Poland are tied at six points.   Hammond stars in Kookaburras victory

  Test Match: Australia 1-0 Netherlands

  The world number one Kookaburras defeated the Netherlands 1-0 in the Kookaburras Cup at Perth Hockey Stadium on Saturday evening. Olympic Gold medallist, Rob Hammond scored the only goal of the game in the 42nd minute as the Kookaburras harassed the Dutch into mistakes on the ball and often caught the former Olympic Champions in possession.   More

  Poland maintained its hope for a London berth, recovering from a loss to France on opening day to beat Canada, 3-2, in a tightly contested match.   Pietie Coetzee helped South Africa to its second win of the competition over Ukraine, 2-0. Alessia Padalino scored a hat-trick to help Italy overcome Poland (4-1). India recorded its first win of the competition against Canada (4-1), much to the delight of the local crowd.  x 2  x 3 More

  Canada showed that it is ready for this competition, relentlessly attacking the Italian goal to finish with a comfortable win (9-0).   South Africa labored to beat a valiant Polish team (2-1), with Pietie Coetzee saving the day with a late goal.   Captains & trophies on show at India Gate

  The team captains and trophies of the Hero FIH Road to London tournaments were presented at India Gate, an historical landmark downtown Delhi. The competitions will open on Saturday at Major Dhyan Chand National Hockey Stadium. The Captains of the six men’s teams and of the six women’s teams were in attendance and posed for the media with the coveted golden trophies.  x 7   More

  The Men’s Hero FIH Road to London tournament starts on Saturday in Delhi, with 6 teams fighting for a single ticket for the Olympic Games this summer in London. This is the first of 3 Olympic Qualifiers, with the next two in Dublin, Ireland (March 10 to 18) and Kakamigahara, Japan (April 26 to May 6). The three winners join the nine teams already qualified through the Continental Championships last summer to make up the group of twelve to compete in London.  x 3 More
