Tim Pullman, the Australian umpire, was presented with his golden whistle after umpiring his 100th senior international match at the Champions Challenge 1 in Johannesburg. There were plenty of goals for spectators to enjoy on the opening day of the Champions Challenge 1 Randburg Hockey Stadium. Canada and South Africa made winning starts while two of the more fancied nations, Argentina and Belgium, both relied on late goals as they shared the spoils against Japan and India respectively.
