    South Africa men & Egypt to battle for London 2012 berth

    2nd African Olympic Qualifier – Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

    In what was an unconvincing performance for the first hour, during which they led 3-2 at half-time, South Africa finally broke free to beat Kenya 8-3 in the Africa Cup Olympic Qualifier clash at Khumalo Hockey Stadium in Bulawayo Friday afternoon. Their opponents in the tournament final will be Egypt, who secured a 2-2 draw with Ghana to book their place in the London 2012 play-off match.  x 15 More

    Head coach Fabian Gregory’s unbeaten Investec South Africa women’s hockey team beat Zimbabwe 7-0 after leading 2-0 at half-time in their final round-robin match at the Africa Cup Olympic Qualifier tournament in Bulawayo Thursday. South Africa will play Kenya, who were in an exciting 1-1 draw with Ghana, in Sunday’s 3 pm final at Khumalo Hockey Stadium. More

    4-0 success seals series triumph for New Zealand

    The Black Sticks Women have won the series against the United States, thanks to a 4-0 win in their third of five test matches at the Olympic Training Centre in Chula Vista, San Diego.     2nd African Olympic Qualifier – Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

    Day 5 of the 2nd Africa Olympic Qualifier – being played in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe – witnessed a staggering 23 goals in just three matches in the men’s competition. Kenya and Ghana were emphatic winners against Morocco and Zimbabwe respectively, but the big game of the day concerned co- favourites South Africa and Egypt, who proved themselves to be evenly matched ahead of a likely meeting in Sunday’s final.  x 2 More
