The year 2007 immediately starts with a major hockey event when the six best women’s teams of the world meet for the BDO Champions Trophy in Quilmes, Argentina. From 13 until 21 January, Netherlands, Australia, Argentina, Spain, Japan and Germany will fight for the most important women’s title this year under the Argentine sun.

It is hard to pick a favorite for the 15th Champions Trophy in the history of hockey. World Champion Netherlands will travel to South America with a very strong team and is a team that will be able to win the event in Quilmes, located near the Argentine capital Buenos Aires. The Dutch formation impressed in the preparation matches when it nailed Germany and South Africa twice. Netherland opens the BDO Champions Trophy on Saturday 13 January against outsider Spain.

2006 World Champion runner-up Australia nominated a young and talented team for the BDO Champions Trophy. The big question will be if the six times winner will be able to compete against the top formation with this newly formed formation.

Germany won the Champions Trophy for the first time in Amstelveen, Netherlands last year. After a disappointing eight place at the Samsung World Cup last year, the 2004 Olympic Champion is looking for revenge.

Host Argentina would like to show the home crowd that it is capable of winning the Champions Trophy for the second time after the success in 2001. Asian Games Champion China won the Champions Trophy already once in 2002 and would like to do better that the second place last year. Japan makes its debut at the Champions Trophy after a surprising fifth position at the 2006 Samsung World Cup.

The BDO Champions Trophy can be followed live though a special micro site at www.worldhockey.org.
