The WorldHockey Forum ‘Synergy for Success’ turned out to be a great success here in London on Friday. During this special session, held on the day before the FIH Congress, all 80 national associations, Executive Board members and FIH Committee members present were able to discuss the future of hockey. In total, more than 250 people of the ‘hockey family’ attended the WorldHockey Forum.
‘This has been an excellent day’, FIH President Els van Breda Vriesman stated. ‘We have learned a lot from all national associations present here at the WorldHockey Forum. This will help the FIH in the future. We want to move hockey forward an listening to the advices we heard today will guide us to the right direction. I would like to thank all national associations for their excellent contributions.’
One of the highlights were the presentations from five national associations about the way they achieved success in different sections. German Joachim Hurter explained the way the German Federation organized the BDO World Cup two months ago. Hernan Sanchez from Chili told the participants about the way to develop hockey at all levels. Oko-Kikoi Dzani and Nii Quaye-Kumah from Ghana gave a presentation about increasing the efficiency and operational activity in managing the national association. Sheila Walker and Laura Darling from the USA focussed on attracting and developing officials at all technical level. Paul Varian from Ireland gave a speech about how to make events more rewarding and enjoyable.
With the presentations in mind, the participants were split into five different groups to discuss how national associations and the FIH can create synergy together. The outcomes of these discussions were addressed to a special panel. ‘The outcome of the discussions will help us in the future’, Els van Breda Vriesman addressed in her closing speech.
