Field Hockey Canada have announced Australian Sally Bell as the new head coach of the Canadian women's team. She will join the Canadian team in Vancouver this May where the team will centralise immediately.

Bell has a Bachelor of Education, with a Major in Physical Education and is an Australian Level 3 Hockey Coach. She has held a number of coaching positions in Australia, USA, and most recently in Northern Ireland. She is currently responsible for the coaching of Irish athletes in the Field Hockey Program at the Sports Institute of Northern Ireland.

Bell is also the assistant coach for the Irish Women’s team under head coach, Riet Kuper and has also assisted the Irish Men’s team on tours.

Coach education is a focus of Sally’s, having chaired the High Performance Coaching Committee in Northern Ireland and been a member of Western Australia’s Coaching Committee. She has been responsible for the design and implementation of the High Performance Plan for hockey within Northern Ireland. Other key responsibilities while at the Sports Institute in Northern Ireland have been to manage the athlete’s programs with regard to strength and conditioning, injury management, sports science initiatives, video analysis, nutrition and sports psychology.

Field Hockey Canada looks forward to welcoming Bell, her husband and three daughters to Canadian hockey and assisting her in meeting the many challenges involved as the head coach of a national team.
