England and Netherlands drew 1-1 on the opening night of the women's four nation tournament in Cordoba, Argentina.
Danny Kerry’s young side, led by experienced campaigners Kate Walsh, Helen Richardson and Mel Clewlow, produced a high energy performance, which saw them stifle the Dutch attack, limiting them to only two shots and pose a number of questions to their opposition defence.
Kerry has got every member of the squad working for the team cause and this was reflected in this excellent team performance.
The performance was even more pleasing as players tried to put into practice concepts covered on the training ground. The young players in the side provided great pace and stepped up well onto the senior stage.
The first half had both defences on top and few goal scoring opportunities were created. The Dutch went ahead in the second half and applied the pressure but England held their strong work ethic and were rewarded with a goal from Lisa Wooding with an excellent drag flick four minutes from full time.
In the night’s other match, Argentina defeated Australia 1-0 after Soledad Garcia’s penalty corner goal just after half time.
