The USA Field Hockey Under-19 National Indoor Tournament will be held from 4-6 March at the Pavilion in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with more than 700 athletes from 64 teams taking part.

Returning to Virginia Beach for a fifth consecutive year, the tournament is the first of three weekends of USA Field Hockey’s indoor championships, with the Under-16 and Under-14 age groups scheduled for 25-27 March in Richmond, Virginia.  The women’s tournament is also scheduled for 19-20 March 19 at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania.

“The National Indoor Tournament has become synonymous with Virginia Beach,” said USA Field Hockey Assistant Executive Director Karen Collins. 'The sport continues to grow in this area and we’re happy to call Virginia Beach our home.”

Virginia Beach serves as the home of the USA women's national team and the USA Field Hockey National Training Centre. The Training Centre will host this summer’s six-nation international event, the Rabobank Champions Challenge from 8-16 July, as well as the Longstreth National Futures Championship. The USA women’s national squad will also host Australia in a four-game series from 4-10 June at the Training Center.

The National Tournament will feature some of the nation's top athletes, including eight members of USA Field Hockey's Under-21 team and four members of the USA Under-16 team.

USA Under-21 team members scheduled to appear at the tournament include Jen Long, Allison Scola, Sarah Reinprecht, Alexandra Malatesta, Kaitlyn Falgowski, Laura Suchoski, Katie O’Donnell and Brianna O’Donnell. Katie O’Donnell, Brianna O’Donnell and Falgowski will represent the United States outdoors at the Pan American Junior Championships, from 16-27 March in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The tournament will also include members of the US Under-16 squad including Hannah Cohen, Michele Drummonds, Taylor Swezey and Kelsey Amy. Cohen, Drummonds and Swezey will join some of their Under -16 team mates for the annual International Easter Tournament Valkenswaard, The Netherlands from 21-28 March.

Initiated in 1980, the National Indoor Tournament has quickly become one of the sport’s premier off-season events. Once considered no more than a wintertime diversion, the game has grown to a full-time devotion for athletes looking to hone their skills and impress collegiate recruiters.

The popularity of the event has spawned a qualification process where Under-19 and Under-16 teams earn berths in the National Tournament through performances at regional qualifying events held throughout the winter.

The U19 Division of the National Indoor Tournament features teams from ten states including Delaware, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina and Virginia.
