Hockey NZ: New Zealand are bound for the men's BDO Hockey World Cup Qualifier in China next April, after a disappointing 5-1 loss to Australia in the final of the Oceania Cup.

By winning the final, Australia won direct entry to the World Cup which will be played in Germany next September.

Australia’s superiority was highlighted by their trademark clinical finishing, their fastbreak counter attack, and their general all round crispness throughout the lines.

The Olympic champions were a step sharper than the Black Sticks, dominating for most of the match, which got underway in dubious weather conditions and the turf water logged. The match had to be called off in the ninth minute for a 50-minute break while the weather cleared and the turf drained.
