Speaking to RFEH.ES, the official website of the Royal Spanish Hockey Federation, Mr Indurain explained that there is still a chance for those not selected to feature in upcoming events such as the TriFinance EuroHockey Championships, which takes place in Antwerp (BEL) in August. "Right now, these are the players who are the fittest and I am convinced that they are the ones who have to compete”, continued Mr Indurain.
Following final selection, the team will head to Rotterdam on 10th June with the Rabobank Hockey World League Semi Final competition beginning on 13th June. Spain’s first match in the tournament takes place on June 14th, although their opponents are yet to be confirmed.
The RFEH have announced that Spain will play three test matches ahead of the competition. On 6th and 8th June, the team will play New Zealand before facing The Netherlands on 11th June.
The men’s Rabobank Hockey World League Semi-Final in Rotterdam will take place from June 13-23. It will be held in conjunction with the women’s semi-final tournament and will feature eight men’s team fighting for both a spot in the 2014 Hockey World Cup and the Hockey World League final round. Host Netherlands will be joined by Australia, Spain, Belgium, New Zealand, India, Ireland and a team that will be qualified following the conclusion of this week’s Round 2 tournament in Russia.
