The respective senior and under-21 women’s teams of The Netherlands played each other in an exhibition match on Tuesday afternoon, with the London 2012 Gold medallists emerging as 1-0 winners over their talented but less experienced compatriots. A solitary field goal from Kitty van Male (pictured, right) was enough to win the match, which was played at SV Kampong, Utrecht. The two teams will face each other for a second time on Tuesday 2nd April.

The friendly matches have been arranged as part of ongoing preparations for the big tournaments that are on the horizon. The senior women are putting in the groundwork ahead of the Rabobank Hockey World League tournament which takes place in Rotterdam from 13-23rd June, while the U-21 team have set their sights on winning this summer’s Junior World Cup in Monchengladbach, Germany.

The players of Laren and Den Bosch have been excused from playing in these fixtures due to their participation in this weekend’s EuroHockey Club Champions Cup tournament in Hamburg, Germany.

Tickets for the Rabobank Hockey World League tournament are now on sale to the general public. To find out more, click here.
