Hockey Australia has announced that current Chief Executive Mark Anderson looks set to be named Chief Executive Officer of Swimming Australia (SA). According to a Hockey Australia media release, the National Association understands that Anderson is "the preferred candidate" for the CEO role left vacant following the departure of Kevin Neil in November 2012. Mr Neil resigned from the position after a disappointing showing from Australia's swimmers at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Mark Anderson has served as Chief Executive for Hockey Australia since November 2008 and has overseen the implementation of a new constitution and corporate strategic plan, the introduction of new Gold-level partnerships with Fortescue, Ausdrill and ANPHA, the hosting of three successful Champions Trophy hockey tournaments, the creation of the innovative Hockey 9’s tournament in Perth, a strengthening of relationships with key government and state/territory hockey partner organisations and an unprecedented period of financial stability.
Hockey Australia said that Mr Anderson is still finalising the details of his contract and that they had planned to make this announcement jointly with Swimming Australia next week. However, news of Anderson's connection to the role has been reported by various media sources in recent days, compelling Hockey Australia to bring forward their announcement.
The National Association said that they were disappointed that the news was leaked prior to the engagement being finalised, but wishes Mr Anderson the very best of success in his new role.
