The European Hockey Federation (EHF) has announced the match schedule for the 2013 TriFinance EuroHockey Championships.

The competition – which takes place at Braxgata Hockey Club, Boom (BEL) in August – is unquestionably one of the biggest events in this year’s calendar, with the best 16 (eight men, eight women) international teams in Europe taking to the field.

To highlight the standard of the competition, three of the top five teams in the FIH World Rankings take part in both the men’s and the women’s event. On the men’s side, Germany (FIH World Ranking: 1), Netherlands (WR 3) and England (WR 4) will compete, while Netherlands (WR 1), England (WR 4) and Germany (WR 5) will all be strong contenders for the women's title. Ticket sales for the event will start on Wednesday 6th February 2013.

“It is my pleasure to endorse the match schedule for the upcoming TriFinance EuroHockey Championships”, said European Hockey Federation President Marijke Fleuren. “It is always a challenging task to get the balance right between the fundamental importance of the welfare of the players, whilst trying to ensure that the tournament is enhanced by having the local games at attractive times. In addition, EHF is mindful of the demands of television scheduling, a vital component to the success of the tournament. The winners, both Women and Men become European Champions and win a direct ticket to the 2014 FIH World Cup in Den Haag, underlining the importance of the TriFinance EuroHockey Championships. I am really looking forward to the tournament and know the massive volume of work that will be undertaken by the organising committee over the coming months. I wish them well and assure them of the continued support of the EHF, our volunteers and staff.”

There was also comment from Eduard Biekens, the Chairman of the Organising Committee for the tournament.

“We are very pleased with this match schedule”, said Biekens. “The priority for us as organisation is the optimal combination of a high-quality sports event in a family concept, with an abundance of entertainment. We want to have one huge hockey party. We therefore take account of both the sporting aspect and the times of the matches for visitors from our neighbouring countries and obviously also the matches of our Red Lions [Belgium men] and Red Panthers [Belgium women]. With this programme, we can guarantee our objective of combining hockey and entertainment."
