The 2012 Asian Champions Trophy has got underway in Doha, with Malaysia, India and Pakistan all winners on Thursday (20th December).
Malaysia powered to a 4-1 win over Japan in the opening match of the tournament, with Tengku Tajuddin Abdul Jalil, Faizal Saari, Hafifi Hafiz Hanafi and Muhammad Razie Abdul Rahim all netting before Toshiro Tachibana scored a late consolation for Japan.
India – who recently finished fourth at the FIH Champions Trophy in Melbourne – were in sparkling form against China, cruising to a 4-0 win. Vokkaliga Raghunath scored two penalty corners as India dominated their Chinese opponents.
Champions Trophy bronze medallists Pakistan were also in good form, smashing eight goals past Oman to get their tournament off to a flying start. Talismanic striker Shakeel Abbasi netted a hat-trick in the contest as the Greenshirts surged to an 8-3 victory against a spirited Omani team.
The tournament runs between the 20th and 27th December.
