Hockey India has confirmed the squad that will travel to Australia to compete in the International Super Series and the 34th Men’s FIH Champions Trophy. The 18-strong squad will be captained by midfield star Sardar Singh with defender VR Raghunath taking the role of Vice-Captain.
Selection trials were recently conducted at SAI Centre, Netaji Subash Institute of Sports in Patiala from 25 – 27 October 2012, and were witnessed by Hockey India Selectors Col. Balbir Singh, B.P Govinda and Thoiba Singh as well as Government Observer Harbinder Singh and Chief Coach Michael Nobbs.
The International Super Series - a unique and exciting concept that is played with nine players, larger goals and a modified game time of 20-minute halves - takes place from 22 to 25 November in Perth, with India competing alongside England, Australia and Pakistan. India will open its campaign against England on 22 November followed by matches against Australia and Pakistan.
The International Super Series will be followed by the FIH Champions Trophy, which takes place at the State Netball Hockey Centre in Melbourne from 1st to 9th December 2012. India have been drawn into Pool A where they face England, Germany and New Zealand, while Belgium, Netherlands, Pakistan and host national Australia compete in Pool B. India will open its campaign on 1st December against England followed by matches against New Zealand and Germany on 2 and 4 December respectively.
