The Royal Belgian Hockey Association is proud to present the new head coach for the men’s national team. Top Dutch coach Marc Lammers takes the role from 1 November 2012, with the stated ambition of winning a medal with the Red Lions in Rio 2016.
43-year-old Lammers first became head coach of a national team at a very young age, taking charge of the Spanish women. He transformed their fortunes, leading them from 20th in the world to a 4th place finish at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. His next role was an eight year stint with The Netherlands women, guiding the team to Olympic Silver at Athens 2004, a world title in 2006 and Olympic Gold at Beijing 2008.
Marc is well known for being a people person and for introducing innovations such as the use of technology in every day coaching. When starting his work with the Dutch women’s team, he said, “If we want to be the best in the world, we have to work at least as hard as the opposition. That is the basis. After that, we can distinguish ourselves from the competitors with the help of technological development.”
The KBHB (Royal Belgian Hockey Association) feels that it has turned the departure of current coach Colin Batch into a true opportunity by attracting another hugely respected international coach. His technical staff will include ex-Red Lion Phillippe Goldberg, who has demonstrated his talent by winning European titles with the U18 and U21 boys in the last 2 years. Former Dutch international Jeroen Delmee, now also active as a premier coach and analyst, completes a coaching group that has the ambition to guide a young, talented collection of players from 5th place at London 2012 to a medal at Rio 2016 via a top three finish at next years' EuroHockey Nations Championship at home in Boom.
