Belgium men and the women of The Netherlands emerged triumphant at The Volvo EuroHockey Junior Championships, which took place last week at Den Bosch Hockey Club in the Netherlands. 
The men of Belgium, who topped Pool B  before defeating semi-final oppenents France thanks to a Golden Goal from Alexander Hendrickx, produced a brilliant, battling performance to edge past host nation The Netherlands thanks to a dramatic penalty shootout.  Normal time finished with the scores locked at 2-2, with Belgium captain and tournament top scorer Loick Luypaert scoring penalty corners either side of Dutch goals from Glenn Schuurman and Thierry Brinkman before the hosts were defeated 4-3 in the shootout. If the men's final was a close contest, the women's equivalent was far less so as The Netherlands cruised to a thumping 9-1 win over Spain. The Dutch girls lead 6-0 at half time thanks in part to a hat-trick from player of the tournament Roos Drost, who chipped in with a further two goals in the second half as The Netherlands ran riot against their Spanish opposition. Lieke van Wijke also netted a treble in the game, with Valerie Magis also getting her name on the score-sheet. The Netherlands had been the standout team throught the competition, having scored an incredilbe 35 goals in their three pool matches before pushing aside England in the semi final with a convincing 4-1 victory.
