The Hockey World League is back in action this weekend as Singapore will host a four-team Round 1 tournament. Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore will play in the three-day Round Robin event.
This weekend’s tournament will mark the international FIH debut for two of the four teams as Hong Kong (59th in the FIH World Ranking) and Thailand (49th) are the debutants. Bangladesh is also relatively new to the international hockey scene and weighs in at #40, while Singapore enters as the favorite, holding the 32nd spot in the FIH World Ranking.
The pressure will be on the quartet as only the winner of the tournament will be qualified for World League Round 2.
The tournament is the second men’s World League event and the third overall. Two weeks ago the Czech Republic hosted both a men’s and women’s tournament. Poland won the men’s tournament earning the right to move onto Round 2 along with runner-up Ukraine.
The Singapore tournament begins tomorrow and will end on Sunday.
