After three matches in the EHL Men’s Premier Division, Cannock are the only club with maximum points picking up two away wins in a double header weekend.

On Saturday then won 3-1 at Hampstead and on Sunday they defeated local rivals Loughborough Students 5-2.

Loughborough are one of four sides who trail Cannock by three points. Reading are second having beaten Guildford 3-2 on Sunday thanks to a last gasp winner from Simon Mantell.

However the day before they lost 2-1 at home to Surbiton who followed this up with a 5-1 win over Hampstead.

Guildford are the other side on six points as they defeated Canterbury 6-1 on Saturday.

As well as Hampstead, Chelmsford were another side to lose both fixtures at the weekend. On Saturday they were beaten 7-3 at home by Loughborough and on Sunday they went down 5-3 in the Essex derby at Old Loughtonians.

East Grinstead got off the mark in a 3-2 defeat of Old Loughts on Saturday thanks to Mark Ansell’s 70th minute winner but they were brought down to earth on Sunday losing 3-0 at home to Canterbury, the Kent side’s first points.

In the Women’s Premier Division, the current Super Cup holders, Canterbury, are also leading the way. On Saturday they drew 1-1 with Ipswich and then beat Chelmsford 2-1 on Sunday. Saturday’s game was preceded by a minute’s silence in memory of Bill Hayes, the Canterbury club stalwart who passed away recently.

Olton bounced back from their surprising thrashing at Doncaster to beat Slough 2-1 on Saturday and followed this up with another excellent win, 3-2 at Bowdon Hightown on Sunday.

Leicester were another side to pick up six points over the weekend courtesy of a 3-2 win over Doncaster and a 1-0 defeat of Clifton who had lost 4-1 at home to Bowdon Hightown the day before. Doncaster earned a useful point in a 3-3 draw at Ipswich on Sunday, whilst Old Loughtonians lost both their games, against Chelmsford and Slough 2-1.

The second result might have been different but for a missed stroke by Emily Reynolds.
