Diary – Day 6 – Saturday 24 September

Six finalists waiting to give there presentations ( Lwandile, Andrea, Chloe, Nicola, Jane and Michael)

Today was Asia Day at the World Youth Hockey Promoter Festival! The Youth Promoters from India , Sri Lanka and Hong Kong brought food and other items to share their culture with us.

We then had a Club Development workshop which was presented by Ana. In this we learned that everyone needs to be a keystone in order to get things done.

We also went through the benefits of an action plan when creating a club. This was followed by a mini debate where questions were put forward about hockey clubs and we had to either agree or disagree with the statement and give our reasons. This was a great exercise.

We then had to do a presentation as a Club Board where we prepared a club under different guidelines in our groups, based on the purpose, design structure, action plan, name and location.

The highlight of the day was the presentation from the six finalists: Lwandile Simelane (South Africa), Chloe Guy (Wales), Jane Cronin (Ireland), Michael Steinmann (Germany), Andrea Balatte (Argentina) and Nicola Connell (New Zealand).

They presented their projects to an international jury and the FIH Executive Board.

The winner was Michael Steinmann from Germany and he received a Fuji camera and phone printer and the trophy as 2005 Youth Promoter. The other finalists all received TK hockey sticks.

The day ended with the Youth Panel giving a presentation which a lot of us signed up for and they we went to watch some more hockey!
