Diary - Day 5 – Thursday 22 September

We started the day with an introduction by the American Continents, showing us their various cultures, dances and food. Following that we took a bus to Valparaiso and Vina del Mar.

In Valparaiso we stopped for about half and hour at a lookout near the funicular. From there we had a view of the bay with Vina del Mar across the bay.

Here there was a small open air market where we were able to buy souvenirs and look at some of the local art and handicrafts.

Valparaiso is a colourful city from a British background. It has beautiful old architecture. We could see the whole city from this viewpoint.

Later we went to the Bote Salvaridas (lifeguard boat) restaurant, right by the sea. After having lunch and taking some pictures we left for Vina del Mar.

This city is much more touristy and contemporary. We stopped for about 30 minutes to do some sightseeing by the beach. Some of us walked around the main street where the shops were, while others walked by the pacific coastline or just took pictures.

Later we all got together at the beach to play some beach football and enjoy the water.

It was a great day to get to know a little bit of Chile and of course each other.
