Uhlenhorster HC and Amsterdam H&BC are the first teams to qualify for the Euro Hockey League Final Four in May. The EHL double winners UHC Hamburg celebrated a massive 7-1 win over the English champions Beeston HC. The second Quarter Final in Rotterdam was won by the Dutch champions AH&BC who defeated the Hoofdklasse runners-up from Bloemendaal 3-2.
It’s the second time that AH&BC reach the Final Four which will be played on 26./27. May. Amsterdam and Bloemendaal have never met each other in an EHL encounter before. The spectators in the crowded hockey stadium in Rotterdam witnessed a very competitive encounter with both teams concentrating on defense.
Taeke Taekema took the lead for AH&BC which was doubled by Mirco Pruyser. Pruyser is the EHL top scorer in this edition having scored eight goals. Wouter Jolie scored the consolation goal for Bloemendaal but Amsterdam responded immediately to extend the lead to 3-1. The 3-2 was a penalty corner goal scored by Olmer Meijer in the last minute of the match.
UHC reached the Final Four for the fourth time. They are the most successful team in EHL history winning Gold in 2007/2008 and 2009/10 as well as claiming Silver in 2008/09.
“We love playing in the EHL and especially playing in Rotterdam”, said UHC team-captain Moritz Fürste who returned from a knee injury. “I’m happy to be back”, added Fürste. The UHC goals were scored by Florian Fuchs (2), Marco Miltkau (2), Ricardo Nevado, Jan Simon und Jonas Fürste.
Monday’s Quarter Finals see Belgian champions KHC Dragons taking on Reading HC with English champions East Grinstead playing host H.C. Rotterdam.
