The European Hockey Federation announces that R. David Balbirnie is to step down as Hon. General Secretary at the end of the year.
Balbirnie informed the European Hockey Federation Executive Board at its recent meeting held in Bratislava, Slovakia on the 9th and 10th March.
Having first been elected to the Executive Board in 1989 and then elected as Hon.General Secretary in 1993 he informed the President, Marijke Fleuren and the Board that after 20 years in the position now was the right moment to step down.
The President noted David’s expression of his "full confidence in the President and Board to ensure a smooth transfer of knowledge over the coming months leading up to the 24th General Assembly to be held in November 2012."
Marijke Fleuren and the Board extended their thanks to David on his enormous contribution to European hockey and are sure that David will have some future rolewithin the hockey family.
The Executive Board will now review the process for a replacement and further details will be announced in due course.
