Diary – Day 2 - Monday 19 September

Anne Ellis and her group of promoters from Hong Kong, Peru, Mexico, Chile. Trinidad & Tobago, Sri Lanka and Argentina

On day two of the World Youth Hockey Promoter Festival, Oceania day kicked off with Carl Dalton giving a brief introduction of Australia.

Youth leaders from countries all around the world then discussed youth development in their countries and their part in helping in the youth development program.

Despite today being a rest day for the teams and officials from the BDO Hockey Junior World Cup, we were honored to have Argentina’s Carolina de la Fuente and Soledad Iparraguirre, two of the world’s top umpires who have umpired at the Olympic Games and World Cup.

They gave a two-hour workshop on umpiring which included their personal experiences, preparation for tournaments and matches, and answered questions on interpretation of the rules. We all found this extremely interesting and were very grateful that they gave up their time for us. We, as young promoters, believe that more workshops involving players, coaches and umpires would benefit us all.

The day closed with Carl giving us a recap on his introduction to Australia. We all found this an exciting and interesting day.
