WellChild has been announced as the Official Charity Partner of the England and Great Britain Hockey teams as part of launch of The npower Big Dribble.

WellChild, the national charity for sick children, supports children and young people throughout the UK as they deal with the consequences of serious illness and complex conditions.

Kicking off the partnership through The npower Big Dribble, the EHB and Great Britain Hockey hope to raise £20,012 for WellChild as the giant hockey ball tours the country in April and May.  Visitors to The npower Big Dribble will have the opportunity to make a donation by text message by texting BIGD12 followed by 3, 5 or 10 to 70070, while those who visit the event microsite at can follow the link to donate online.

Hockey fans are also being encouraged to host their own Little Dribble in aid of WellChild.  As part of the Hockey Nation, businesses, schools and universities will be asked to run fundraising hockey dribbles with the money raised donated to WellChild.  Those hosting their own Little Dribble can submit their pictures and videos with the best posted to Facebook and YouTube.

And even with London 2012 on the horizon, Great Britain Hockey Head Coach Jason Lee and Team Manager Andy Halliday are getting in on the action by running their own Little this year’s London Marathon.  The pair will dribble the marathon course, which runs to nearly 43km, with all money raised going to WellChild.  You can sponsor Jason and Andy’s incredible Little Dribble here. More information about this story will be posted on the FIH website on Friday.

The partnership will also see WellChild raise funds from other EHB events and initiatives including Quicksticks and In2Hockey while the charity’s ambassadors, which include Dragon’s Den star Duncan Bannatyne, pop group Scouting for Girls and Olympian Mark Foster, will be invited to become involved in joint initiatives.

UK users can make a donation today by texting BIGD12 followed by 3, 5 or 10 to 70070.  E.g by texting BIGD125, you can donate £5 to the charity through your mobile phone bill.
