Day 1 Report – Sunday 18 September

Particpants of the 3rd BDO World Youth Hockey Promoter Festival

The 3rd BDO World Youth Hockey Promoter Festival started today at the Manquehue Club in Santiago. In a sea of culture, the participants were welcomed by the FIH President Els van Briesman, Pan American Hockey Federation President (and FIH Vice President) Tony von Ondaza, Manquehue Hockey club President Roberto Ordonez and FIH Executive Board member Anne Ellis.

We have more than 40 youth promoters from 25 countries who have a very busy schedule ahead of them, with coaching, development, umpiring, event management and fundraising workshops to attend. In addition the participants will get to watch the women’s BDO Hockey Junior World Cup.

It was great to see the enthusiasm as the participants took part in the day’s activities which included “Hockey Speed Dating” and other getting to know you exercises.

Carl led the group through a task which identified the things that the participants believe are important in the areas of coaching, umpiring, event management and club development.

Marcela Diaz, from Chile who has been instrumental in introducing and developing hockey into the public schools and giving others less fortunate the opportunity to develop through sport, came to talk to us today and share the with us her work.
