The Hero FIH Road to London tournament was officially launched at a press conference today in Delhi, with representatives from the FIH, Hockey India and title sponsor Hero MotoCorp, as well as a number of players.
The tournament will be held from February 18 to 26 at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. The twelve teams will be vying for two coveted Olympic berths, one for the men and one for the women.
Kelly FAIRWEATHER, CEO of FIH, praised India as the “spiritual land of hockey” and Mr. Anil DUA, Senior Vice-President for Marketing of Hero Hero MotoCorp, explained the importance for his company to support hockey, a sport that has brought much glory and joy to India. They have a long term commitment to promote hockey in the country and revive its popularity.
Mr. Narendra BATRA, Secretary General of Hockey India, welcomed all the participating teams, represented by Bharat CHETRI and Asunta LAKRA, captains of the men’s and women’s Indian teams, Maryna VYNOHRADOVA, captain of the Ukrainian team, and Arnaud BECUWE, captain of the French team.
