Scottish Hockey Union: Kim Christison has stepped into the Scotland U21 women's squad for the BDO Hockey Junior World Cup in Santiago, Chile, after Karen MacGregor was injured during a training camp in Germany.
MacGregor sustained a fractured finger during the squad's recent camp but had been hopeful that she would still be able to travel to Chile for the World Cup. However, following medical advice, Christison was called in to take her place.
MacGregor’s younger sister Kim is also an U21 team member and will make the trip to Santiago.
'Obviously this is a blow to Karen, and a real disappointment for the squad, particularly so close to the competition, but everyone is clear that Kim will be an ideal replacement,” coach Keith Joss said.
Christison has been capped nine times for Scotland and was a member of the squad who played against Germany at Inverclyde earlier this year and also against England in Manchester in July.
The U21 women played a match against a President's Select at the weekend, a team which included two Olympic bronze medalists and a number of former Scotland greats. President's team numbers were swelled by current senior squad players and even one or two of the U21 reserve squad. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
The team leave for Chile on Friday and have two practices games against India and Chile lined up before their first competition match against Korea on Wednesday 14 September.
