Beeston defender Alastair Wilson has been withdrawn from Great Britain’s men’s hockey squad after suffering a recurrence of tendonitis around the knee.  He will miss the Champions Trophy in Auckland, which starts on Saturday.

Wilson, who has been training with the squad in New Zealand will fly home on Friday for rest and further treatment.  He will be replaced by Surbiton defender Ken Forbes.  Forbes has also been training with the squad in Auckland after making his debut for Great Britain in Belgium two weeks ago.

Team Manager, Andy Halliday said: "The injury recurrence couldn't have come at a worse time for Alastair.  He has trained hard for this event and we will be sad to see him go.  However, we are fortunate that we have a player of the calibre of Ken Forbes who is able to step into the breach.

“Ken has prepared meticulously here in Auckland and his experience is an asset to the group."

Great Britain’s men begin the tournament against Pakistan at 01:05 GMT on Saturday before playing Australia in their second Pool A fixture at 23:05 GMT, also on Saturday.  Spain are their final opponents at 01:05 GMT on Tuesday.
