The Video Library is a joint project between the FIH Umpiring Committee and the FIH Rules Committee, the objective of which is to provide a collection of video clips which demonstrate the Rules of Hockey and their current interpretations. It opened for business in November 2010 and last week it broke through the 100,000 hits barrier.

Janet Ellis, the Chair of the Rules Committee commented: -

“When writing the Rules we try to make them as clear as possible.  However, we recognise that particular actions in a game have to be assessed and interpreted in relation to the Rules.  And in that context, a picture – a moving video picture – is much more valuable than written words.  The FIH Rules Committee therefore welcomes this Video Library and is pleased to have cooperated in its development.”

Ermanno Silvano, the Chair of the Umpiring Committee said: -

“We are delighted to see that the number of views has now exceeded 100,000. The feedback that we have received about the Video Library has all been extremely positive. We believe that the use of video technology for coaching purposes is fundamental to the development of Umpires. The number of registered users – now more than 400 – and the number of visits clearly proves that the FIH Rules of Hockey Video library is a valuable tool not only for the Umpires and Umpire Managers but for the whole hockey community.”
