South African hockey has been honoured by the appointment of Sheila Brown and Michelle Joubert as Assistant Technical Delegate and Umpire respectively for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The notification of their nominations was received from the Appointments Committee of the International Hockey Federation (FIH), the world governing body’s whose headquarters is in Lausanne, Switzerland.
This will be the Johannesburg-based Brown’s third appointment to an Olympic Games, while the Pretoria-based Joubert will be making her debut in the four-yearly showpiece event, which is the pinnacle of the game.
Brown has had a long and distinguished career in hockey administration in South Africa and among her many roles over the years is her current position as president of the Southern Gauteng Hockey Association, while she has also been vice-president of the sport’s national authority, the SA Hockey Association.
Joubert has risen rapidly up the world umpiring ladder and officiated in the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India last year, as well as the 2010 World Cup in Rosario, Argentina.
