Malaysian Team achieved its targets by being in the Finals.
Malaysian team stormed into the Finals against Australia in the 1st
Sultan of Johor Cup 2011 by beating India 5-1. The atmosphere at the
packed stadium indicates that the game of hockey in Malaysia is a very
popular sport and has an outstanding following of fans. The match was
played at a very competitive spirit since both teams has a chance to
make the cut to the finals but with the strong support of thousands of fans
assisted and uplifted the spirit of the Malaysian team to beat India
to be in the Finals of the first edition Sultan of Johor Cup 2011 in
Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
The Malaysian team has achieved the target set by Malaysian Hockey
Confederation which is to finish top two in the tournament. This event
is the first edition and have received a great applaud and honour from
all the participating teams and Tournament Officials. The teams were
Pakistan, India, Australia, New Zealand, Korea and host Malaysia.
This tournament which will feature annually in the FIH calendar will
bring the best hockey talent around the world. It is the perfect
platform for the Malaysian team to showcase such talent and is crucial
to the development of next generation of stars and builds strong
Malaysian national team.
This annual event will further help the sport to flourish around the
world as the juniors are an important ingredient in the development of
powerful teams. The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) under the
presidency of His Royal Highness Prince Abdullah deserves a pat on the
back for coming up with this brilliant idea of having this annual
invitational Under-21 tournament.
A FIH-MHC High Performance National Coaching Course was also organised
in-conjunction with this event and well received by the top experts of Malaysia.
