Spanish coach Dani Martín has announced his 18-man squad for the forthcoming Owen G Glenn FIH Champions Trophy, which takes place in Auckland (New Zealand) from 3rd to 11th December.
The squad contains just one new face from the Spain side that competed in the EuroHockey Nations Championships over the summer, with Atlétic Terrassa midfielder Juan Carlos Ballbé joining the group.
As usual, the side contains many big name stars including feared attacking trio Edi Tubau, Santi Freixa and 2008 FIH Player of the Year Pol Amat. Other key individuals include siblings Ramon and David Alegre, penalty corner star Pau Quemada and combative midfielder Alex Fabregas.
With the London 2012 Olympics less then one year away, Dani Martin's team head to New Zealand determined to boost confidence after a disappointing 6th place finish in the Euro Nations event which took place in Monchengladbach.
Spain will be keen to rediscover the form which saw them claim Silver at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. However, they will need to produce top performances against Pool A rivals Great Britain, Pakistan and current world number 1 Australia if they are to reach the Semi Finals of the competition.
